I started out with the scars on my feet, the ones on my right foot which mark the amputation of half of my big toe, several tendon transfers (I have had a few problems with the tendons on my right foot, so they transplanted the tendons from the back on my right calf into my right foot and ankle so that I could pick my foot up again). The scar on my right calf, the one that is still really tight and close to the muscle and hurts. Then I studied the numerous ones on my left foot, the four on my ankle, the ones that go up the side of my calf which clearly mark me as having been operated on even when my foot is covered and hidden, which it always is. I studied all of the lumpy, ugly scars on my feet, from the first one I had (a tiny little one going up my heel that I got as a baby) to the most recent-- where they reopened a scar to gain access to the plate that had to be removed. Then I studied the one under my ass, a tiny purple one where they harvested skin for the graft that didn't work. I looked at the rather large one on my left hip where they harvested hip bone to rebuild my left foot.
